The Saint Grat Farm and the first orchards
The Saint Grat Farm was established in Gressan, about 5 kilometers from Aosta, the regional capital, to produce apple juice.
The farm’s orchards and business began to appear and grow in large numbers after World War II as demand from residents increased.
In recent years, thanks to major renovation and rationalization of the cultivation, the Saint Grat Farm has increased its traditional production of apples, particularly rennet apples.
Hence the idea of allocating a portion of the harvest to pressing.
“Beware,” warns Ivo , ” a part, not the scraps!“
Apple and apple juice production in the Aosta Valley.
The Saint Grat Farm ‘s orchards are all parceled out and located in the Gressan area.
“It is not at all easy to work in this area,” Ivo tells us, “ but we are still lucky because our climate is a great help: there is little rain and therefore a lot of sunshine, which makes the apple delicious, juicy and without defects!”
Indeed, the Aosta Valley is on the whole a particularly good area for apple production, thanks precisely to the dry climate that discourages the establishment of apple orchard pests.
The company now offers a selection of three juices made from different apples, all grown locally.
In our Boxes you can find the following apple juices produced by Saint Grat Farm: rennet apple juice, the queen of Aosta Valley apples, golden apple juice , and, finally, cloudy golden apple juice.
