Valsavarenche Gran Paradiso National Park Visitor Center – “Water and Biodiversity”
The House of Otters
Spanning an area of 14,000 square meters in the heart of the protected area of the National Park, this center offers an educational and interactive experience focused on the importance of water in natural ecosystems.
Immersion in Nature The Center is located in a wooded area, rich in springs and home to a water-powered sawmill until a few years ago.
The exhibit, enhanced by multimedia installations, videos and aquariums, winds its way through a well-preserved ecosystem, the result of the Park’s conservation efforts.
This exhibit not only informs but also stimulates reflection on the delicate balance between man and nature.
The Eurasian Otter: Symbol of Biodiversity One of the Center’s main attractions is the presence of three Eurasian otters, a species once native to the area but which has disappeared due to human persecution and environmental changes.
These specimens, sourced from a European breeding farm, live in spaces specially designed for them, which simulate their natural habitat and allow in-depth study of their behavior and biology.
Education and Research The Center aims not only to reintroduce otters to their natural habitat but also to educate visitors about the importance of conserving these animals and their environment.
Through the educational program, the Center wishes to increase public awareness about the challenges these species face and the measures needed to protect them.
In addition, the housed specimens are the subject of scientific studies that can provide valuable data for the conservation of the species in the wild.
A Unique Visitor Experience Visiting the Rovenaud Otter Center offers a unique opportunity to observe otters up close in a setting that recreates their natural environment, while learning about the importance of keeping waterways clean and safe for wildlife.
It is an ideal excursion for families, school groups, and anyone interested in better understanding how human actions affect aquatic ecosystems and the species that live in them.
