Winter Hike to the Conca di By: Between Nature and History The hike to the Conca di By represents a deep immersion in the unspoiled nature and history of the Alps.
This winter itinerary begins by leaving your car near the C.V.A. (Giri d’Energia) signs, the starting point for an adventure that winds through breathtaking landscapes and evidence of a past that is still palpable.
The Route The summer trail is our main thread, clearly indicated by a series of marker posts leading toward the Conca di By.
The initial ascent, on beaten track, is accompanied by a fence that makes the path evident even under the snowpack.
Once over a hump, the trail includes a short descent followed by a gentle ascent to the Pont alpine pasture, a silent witness to ancient pastoral practices.
Crossing the alpine pasture, one comes across a characteristic element of the landscape: an ancient “aqueduct” consisting of a metal pipe supported by imposing stone columns.
This structure, besides being an example of rural engineering, reminds us of how man has been able to adapt and shape the mountain environment for his own needs.
The trail continues toward By, offering us a view of an almost frozen stream that is crossed by a small bridge, introducing us to an environment where nature reveals all its austere and silent beauty.
The ascent through a scrub of larches leads up to the foot of the Crottes alpine pastures, which we pass on a path that cuts diagonally across the mountain, until plunging back into a larch forest.
The climb becomes more challenging, with a long series of turns that allow you to gain elevation, until you reach a small rocky promontory.
From here, a small natural balcony offers us our first breathtaking view of the Conca di By, a prelude to the final wonder: the small chapel of the Madonna degli Alpini, located near the By basin, a symbol of devotion and memory
