Challand-Saint-Anselme Arlaz Falls
Arlaz Falls
If you are in Val D’Ayas and want to enjoy some freshness and tranquility without much effort the Arlaz waterfalls are for you!
In fact, this route is undoubtedly suitable for any walker and requires no more than half a day.
From the parking lot in Orbeillaz, a hamlet of Challand Saint Anselme, follow tourist trail number 31, which runs along the Rû d’Arlaz, an artificial canal dating back to the 14th century that carries water from the Evançon stream from the hamlet of Ponteil in Brusson to the municipalities of Challand, Emarese and Montjovet.
The trail continues parallel to the canal within a forest until it reaches a junction with several signs.
We always follow the main path number 31 along which we meet some benches and viewpoints where we can read interesting information panels indicating the mountain peaks belonging to the Nery – Becche group.
After about 20′ you meet the penstocks that descend from the Plan d’Abeilles reservoir to the Isollaz power plant, which the trail passes through an underpass.
Shortly after, another junction is encountered where you continue to follow 31, thus reaching the beautiful Cascades d’Arlaz.
If the day permits and you want to admire an enchanting view of the Central Valley and lower Val d’Ayas, you can take the new branch road to the right to Émarèse thus reaching, in a few minutes of flat walking, the Col d’Arlaz, on the border between the municipalities of Challand St.-Victor, Challand St.-Anselme, Montjovet, Émarèse.
