Champdepraz Barbustel Refuge
Between ponds and views toward the Barbustel
Barbustel Refuge
This pleasant excursion to the Barbustel Refuge takes into the heart of the park of Mont Avic and its natural riches that make this route unforgettable.
From the refuge, you can also enjoy a splendid view of the Monte Rosa, of the Matterhorn and the Dent d’Hérens.Well, how to get there? After driving to Champorcher and passed the Visitor Center Mont Avic Natural Park you take, immediately afterwards, the road that climbs to the right.
From here you reach the hamlet of Petit Mont Blanc (La Cort) where you can park your car.
There is no mistaking it!
Immediately to the right of the parking lot starts the mule track with the sign to Rifugio Barbustel and Colle del Lago Bianco.
This is where the splendid hike starts, which climbs rather steeply into the forest and then softens shortly afterwards, allowing you to catch your breath.
After a few switchbacks the forest branches off and you follow trail marker No. 10.
It climbs gently until it reaches the Muffé stream, finally entering the interior of the Mont Avic Park.
Da qui il sentiero prende di nuovo quota e in breve tempo si incontra il Lake Muffé, at an elevation of 2076m.
If you are not in a hurry, we recommend you take a break here, take some energy and fill your eyes with all the natural beauty you are surrounded by.
But remember: the higher you climb, the more magnificent places you discover.
So you start walking again to reach the Col du Lac Blanc, already clearly visible from here, and then descend to the Barbustel Refuge.
Then, from Lake Muffé continue along the trail that leads to the White Lake Col, climbing gently through alpine grassland.
A few hairpin bends lead to the Col, the highest point of the hike, where there are fantastic views of the Monte Rosa and on the Matterhorn.
Now all that remains is to descend to the Barbustel Refuge at an elevation of 2132 m with a short descent of about 15 minutes.
Here, too, there is no shortage of natural beauty.
All around we find several small lakes: Blanc, Noir, Cornu and Vallette.
Relax in the sun and enjoy the peace that only nature can give you.
We recommend the same route for the return.
