The Route: From Bard to Col de Cou

The Route: From Bard to the Col di Cou Start of the Excursion in Bard The journey begins at the entrance to the village of Bard, where a steep flight of steps marks the beginning of the route.
Continuing along a paved path that climbs in hairpin bends, you can admire the medieval village, laid out along the ancient route of the Roman road and dominated by the imposing structure of the Fortress of Bard.
This section offers a first immersion in the millennial history of the place.
Across the Carrozzabile towards Albard After leaving the village, the path turns into a carriage road that reaches a junction upstream of the hamlet of Croux.
Taking the left branch, the trail continues past some scenic switchbacks until it reaches Albard.
Here, the trail enters a chestnut forest, a serene environment that invites reflection and contact with nature.
Historic and Natural Views As you climb, spectacular views of the valley below open up.
Arriving at the Clusal cottages, there is a privileged view of the Fortress of Bard, which appears even more majestic seen from above.
Continuing towards Bossou and crossing the pastures of Verale, the trail offers moments of tranquility and naturalistic beauty.
Arrival at Col di Cou The last stop of the hike is the Laffumas pasture, followed by reaching Col di Cou, where the remains of military fortifications from various eras can be explored.
This historic site not only chronicles centuries of defensive strategies, but also offers unparalleled views of the surrounding mountains.
From here, in just a few minutes, you can reach the broad ridge of the peak to admire the 360-degree panorama.
