Valgrisenche beauregard dam
A massive dam
Among the beautiful hikes that Valgrisenche has to offer, the loop tour around the Beauregard Dam is definitely among the easiest as a level of difficulty.
A hike suitable for everyone, even the less experienced and children.
It is possible to reach the route by car, taking the road up the Valgrisenche at the far end of the Gran Paradiso Park.
After passing a small series of hairpin bends near Planaval, you arrive at the main town of Valgrisenche.
After the avalanche parapet there is a fork in the road: you have to detour to the winding road that climbs toward Bonne and, after the village, becomes scenic following the entire perimeter of the lake.
Further on you can see the houses of Monthieu: from here you have a good view of both the lake and the Plontaz valley, enclosed between the Felumaz peak, the Pré d’Amont becca and the Tey becca. The road continues slightly uphill to a rocky outcrop that juts out into the lake: from here the view is very impressive and you can admire the glaciers of Ormelune and Suzzey at the foot of the Maurin peak, and then the glaciers of La Plattes des Chamois, Tavellaz and Traversaz.
From here on, the road is slightly downhill until you reach the junction for Lake Saint Grat and Col du Mont.
Going further you will pass a bridge and find the fork to the Mario Bezzi hut: here is the village of Usellières, which is about halfway along the route.
From here on, the road to the starting point begins, skirting the lake steeply up to the dam.
On the left you can see peaks such as the Rutor head, Château Blanc, and, at their base, the Morion glacier.
