Doues Church of St. Blaise
Church of St. Blaise unmissable for history lovers
The parish of Doues found its roots as far back as 1176, as evidenced by a bull issued by Pope Alexander III.
United initially with the parish of Allein, it later separated, although the exact date is not known.
The village of Doues boasts five other chapels, including the oldest, the Châtelair Chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity, dating from the 15th century.
In 1806, it was rebuilt at an altitude of 1430 m on a hilltop with a panoramic view of the village.
Church of St. Blaise The History
The first church, named after St. Peter, stood in the village of La Cerise.
However, because of the danger of landslides, between 1300 and 1400 it was moved to its present location in the chief town.
Subsequently, St. Blaise was added as patron saint, until 1550.
The present Church of St. Blaise was built in 1790 and dedicated to this saint.
The church incorporates a pre-existing chapel built by the Lords de La Crête, where their tomb is located.
