Verrès Cross of Saint Gilles

Favorite destination for hikers

Cross of Saint Gille
How to get to the Cross of Saint Gilles Once you leave your car in one of the parking lots outside the historic center of Verrès, you walk down the street of the old village until you reach a small square. From here you turn left and past a portico, walk down a wide flight of steps that runs alongside the collegiate church of Saint-Gilles. Walk up the right bank of the Evançon stream until you reach the regional road to Val d’Ayas, cross it, and begin to ascend the path that leads into the La Borna du Laou Arboretum You begin to ascend the area by following the wooden railings that lead into the coniferous and broadleaf forest. Along the ascent are benches that provide glimpses of the castle and the old village. After passing a few stepped sections, you cross a small bridge and continue until you reach a fork in the road. Here we turn left and follow, slightly uphill, the stretch of path that separates us from the Cross of Saint-Gilles, located on a very scenic rocky knoll.

Enjoy the view, take two photos, and to descend, continue back the way you came.
