Brusson Estoul – Col Ranzola
Mountain Pilgrimage
Overview of the Hike to the Regina Peak The Regina Peak, located in the picturesque Aosta Valley, offers spectacular views of the Frudiere and Estoul valleys and the Gressoney-Saint-Jean area.
This peak, which reaches 2388 meters in height, is not only a place of natural beauty, but is also charged with history.
History and Significance The name of the peak comes from Queen Margaret of Savoy, who climbed this mountain in 1898.
On Ranzola Hill, an obligatory crossing point during the ascent, there is a chapel used as a shelter in bad weather.
Here there is also a statue of the Madonna and a commemorative plaque dedicated to Lev Tolstoy, the famous poet who visited the place in 1857.
Route Description The hike starts from the Estoul parking lot, from where you follow the road that gradually changes from paved to dirt.
After about an hour’s walk, you arrive at the Fenestra Alp at an altitude of 2080 meters.
Just before this point, it is important to pay attention to trail No. 7 on the right, which leads directly to Col Ranzola at 2170 meters.
Continuing the trail, follow the stone wall to the right and ascend the ridge of the pass by following trail No. 7A.
The final ascent to Punta Regina is on slightly friable but generally accessible terrain, with no particular technical difficulties.
The overall hike takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes, making it ideal for a half-day outing.
Useful Tips Equipment: Be sure to bring clothing suitable for the weather conditions, which can change quickly in the mountains.
