Gressoney-La-Trinité gabiet lake
A magical body of water
It is an artificial lake Built for the dam in 1955 to produce electricity-it has become a very picturesque place, as it is surrounded by alpine nature and gives a breathtaking view of the peaks of Monte Rosa.
On its banks there are picnic areas and eateries where local products can be sampled.
During the winter months the area around the lake is transformed into a ski area with numerous slopes and ski lifts, but it is also worth visiting in other seasons.
In fact, Lake Gabiet is the starting point for several hikes and walks, such as the ascent to the Bettaforca Pass.
It is possible to reach the lake using one of the lifts: the Staffal-Gabiet gondola leaves about a 15-minute walk from the lake, while the Punta Jolanda chairlift (departure from Edelboden), makes it possible to reach the lake in about an hour by following the route with trail marker 5 or 5B.
If you prefer to walk to the lake, from Gressoney-La-Trinité you need to calculate about 2½ hours of walking, and there are a variety of trails you can take: number 4 (near the Walserschield pizzeria), 5 (Punta Jolanda chairlift), 6 from Orsia or 7A from Ciaval.
Taking either of the last two trails will take you along sections on dirt roads, which in the winter months are the ski slopes.
