Ollomont Grand Combin
A vast Green Area rich in history and Traditions the Grand Combin
The journey to the summit of Grand Combin (4314 m) begins at the Aosta East freeway toll booth.
From here, we head toward the majestic Great St. Bernard Tunnel and then take the road to Valpelline on the right after Variney.
This leads us to the picturesque village of Glassier.
Climbing Grand Combin is a unique adventure, quite different from the classic four-thousand-mile destinations in the Alps.
The Italian Normal Route is a fascinating but complicated route, with wild and sparsely frequented sections that add to the feeling of isolation.
Nevertheless, there are two support points, Rifugio Chiarella at Amianthe and Bivacco Musso at the base of Spalla Isler.
The climb should be divided into two days:
Day one: the easier of the two
From the base, through pastures and cliffs, we reach the Chiarella Refuge at Amianthe.
Day 2:
We ascend to the Glacier du Mont Durand and the Col de Sonadon, then tackle the steep slope of the Isler Shoulder to reach the Grand Combin de Valsorey.
From here, we follow the ridge to the highest peak, the Grand Combin de Grafeneire.
