Gressoney-La-Trinité Holy Trinity Parish Church
dedicated to the Holy Trinity
The church, founded in 1702 and dedicated to the Holy Trinity, has St. Francis Xavier as its patron saint, as the patron title of the Three Divine Persons cannot be given.
Elements of interest in the Holy Trinity Church: – The high altar, coeval with the church, is in Baroque style with some Renaissance elements.
Made of gilded and painted wood, it survived a fire in the mid-19th century.
– The wheeled tabernacle from 1704.
– The silver-plated and gilded copper ornamental lamp, dating from 1695.
In 1975, the church suffered a major theft; some stolen works were replaced by statues made by sculptor Siro Viérin, while others came from local chapels, such as the two statues on the altar of St. Joseph, originally located in the Tschaval chapel.
The bell tower, coeval with the church, rises about 30 meters.
The spire dates from 1819 and has a distinctive onion shape, surmounted by a copper bowl and a cross; the structure is made of wood covered with galvanized iron.
Initially equipped with three bells, three more were added in 1933.
The entire bell concert, renovated and inaugurated in 1992, with its twelve bells, is the most complete in Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta.
The oldest bell, dated with certainty, of the ancient concert is displayed in the church square.
