La Magdeleine La magdeleine – Chamois

It will allow you to get to the charming village of Chamois ,considered as one of the highest municipalities in Italy. The latter can only be reached on foot/by bike starting from the Magdeleine or alternatively by cable car from Buisson. Precisely because of this aspect, Chamois is regarded as a small glimpse of peace and serenity , adorned by a splendid panorama of the Matterhorn. How to reach the starting point You have to take the A5 highway and exit at the Châtillon toll booth, follow the signs Valtournenche/Breuil-Cervinia, and once you get to Antey-Saint-André take the right fork with signs for La Magdeleine (7 km from the fork). Then simply follow the signs regarding the walk until you reach the actual beginning of our trail, marked by a large sign. The walk Starting from the signpost, you leave your car in the designated parking lot and follow trail marker 107. The trail develops along the farm road that takes us first to a mountain pasture and then to a wooden fountain, built in the 1990s by the Aosta Valley Forestry Corps. After crossing the forest and gullies , we reach Alpe Copetou, which gives us a beautiful view of the Matterhorn. From here on a short ascent begins, heading east. Reaching the Sacerou valley, we descend to cross the stream and continue through the meadows. We reach the village of Suis and continue to the right, encountering an old mill with the old oil mill. Finally, we cross the bridge over the Chamois stream and arrive at the hamlet of Corgnolaz. Other related routes Always follow trail marker 107, which you take passing through the middle of the village and following the directions of the signposts. After about 1.5 km steep but fairly comfortable ascent and an elevation gain of about 200 m, we arrive at Lake Lod. For those who want, it is also possible to reach the lake by chairlift , again starting from the village of chamois.

Trivia This path is part of the “The Great Matterhorn Balcony” trail where there is a thematic outdoor walk suitable for children, which has the theme of energy as its main theme. Energie in Gioco is in fact a path along which seven playful installations have been placed that lead to discovering how energy is produced and consumed as well as making people think about renewable energy sources, Water, Fire, Earth and Sun. The trail is also passable in winter with snowshoes or cross-country skis.
