Saint-Marcel Les Iles Nature Reserve

A natural green expanse

Located along the course of the Dora Baltea River, near Brissogne, lies the precious wetland area of Les Iles Nature Reserve, with its 35.4 hectares in size and an altitude of between 526 and 532 meters.
A crucially important place for migratory avifauna, particularly for species such as the Great Egret, Purple Heron, Little Egret and numerous ducks, which find an ideal stopover and feeding site here during their movements.
Spring is the highlight with peaks of reports and sightings.
What can be seen in Les Iles Nature Reserve In the Reserve, resident species such as Mallard, Coot, Reed Warbler and Moorhen, which live mainly in the marsh vegetation, also enrich the naturalistic landscape.
The variety of flora is equally remarkable, with marsh reed, rushes, sedges and, above all, the rare Typha minima, a symbol of the ancient riparian landscape that once characterized the entire valley, now unfortunately almost disappeared.
How to get to Les Iles Nature Reserve The reserve can be easily reached from Aosta, following State Road 26 in the direction of Turin, turning right at the Brissogne bridge and proceeding on foot along the track that runs along the Dora Baltea, until reaching the entrance marked by a dedicated sign.
