Donnas loc Rosa- mission cross
Fall Discovery: The Walk of the Vineyards of Donnas
In the heart of the Aosta Valley, the loc.
Rosa di Donnas offers the starting point for one of the most enchanting and fragrant walks in the region: the vineyard trail to the Mission Cross.
This trail is a hymn to natural beauty, local winemaking tradition and agricultural ingenuity, represented by the “topie,” the traditional arbors that support the vines.
The Vineyard Trail: A Sensory Journey Among Pergolas and Vineyards The Vineyard Trail winds its way through a sunny, flat environment, offering walkers the chance to immerse themselves in a wine-growing landscape of rare beauty.
The view of the topie, the traditional Valdostan arbors, creates an evocative setting where the vines are exposed to the sun’s rays, enhancing the unique scents and colors of these lands.
The Barmets: Testimonies of Tradition Along the way, you can discover the “barmets,” small cellars dug under large boulders.
These spaces, used by local winemakers, are fascinating examples of how tradition and ingenuity meet to overcome the challenges posed by the environment.
Inside the barmets, rainwater is collected in tanks for use in winemaking work, while the constantly cool and stable temperature provides the ideal environment for storing wine.
