Ayas Mascognaz Falls and the Village of the same name.
The rascard village
From Champoluc to reach the village of Mascognaz and its waterfalls is very easy!
Starting from the Tourist Information Point in Champoluc, after the small church, a paved road begins where there are numerous trail signs.
The trail to follow to Mascognaz Falls and its village is number 14D.
As you climb the paved road, you meet the waterfall and its stream, in front of which is a small wooden bridge.
Here you do not cross the bridge and go left following the 14D sign that allows you to get to the village via the falls.
The trail climbs and descends through the forest skirting, almost always, the falls and its stream and encountering various resting places and viewpoints.
The first is a clearing with a bench protected by a fence to the right of the trail.
Continuing on, a second viewpoint over the waterfall is encountered followed by more switchbacks after which a steeper section begins.
After a partly stepped ascent the switchbacks become wider thus reaching its summit.
What a sight!
Yet we advise you not to stop here!
When the forest branches off you will find some new dwellings and from here, once you cross the small bridge, you will reach the small square of Mascognaz where you can refresh yourself in the cool water of the fountain and admire the fairy-tale village. The village of Mascognaz is a typical old Walser village located at 1822 meters above sea level consisting of huts and old rascards, a chapel, the chapel of San Grato, a watering hole and numerous narrow streets.
The typical fourteenth-century Walser houses in the village have been carefully restored and converted into seven luxury chalets, four of which are located in the heart of the original village, while three on the right side of the stream of the same name
