One of the most classic and scenic routes is from the hamlet of Barmasc, near Antagnod, in Val d’Ayas.
It is an approximately 3-hour route, marked by trail marker 105, that climbs first into the forest and then along the north ridge of the mountain, passing the Colle della Portola.
Another possible route is from La Magdeleine in Valtournenche, which also includes an ascent to Mount Tantanè, another scenic peak.
This is a fairly long but easy loop that follows the southwest ridge of Tantanè and then the east ridge to Zerbion, always passing through the Colle della Portola.
The walking time is about 5 hours.
History of Mount Zerbion Mount Zerbion has an ancient and interesting history related to geology and religion.
The summit of Mount Zerbion is also home to an imposing statue of Our Lady, erected in 1946 as a sign of thanksgiving for the end of World War II.
The 8-meter-high, copper-clad statue was carried in pieces up the mountain by the faithful and Alpine soldiers, with considerable effort.
The statue can be seen from several points in the valley and is a destination for pilgrimages and religious celebrations.
