Allein Parish Church of St. Stephen

The Parish Church of St. Stephen of Allein, as well as the parish church of the municipality, existed as early as the mid-13th century.
A document dated 1250 reveals the name of the Allein parish priest and two wills dated 1270 and 1287 by Nicolas Richard and Donna Benoite.
The latter granted donations to the Allein church.
Over the centuries the church was continually modified and improved.
In 1840 it was decided to rebuild the church building from scratch further down the valley because of unstable ground in the hamlet of Villa.
The new building was consecrated in 1841.
During the first half of the 20th century and in the centuries that followed, the church was renovated and beautified as we can admire it today.

Indeed, we can admire the simple facade of the Parish Church of St. Stephen, marked by a large semicircular window.
The interior is decorated with mid-19th-century paintings and features a single nave.
On either side of this we admire two barrel-vaulted chapels and the square bell tower, renovated during the 19th century, leaning against the left sacristy.
