Introd Petit Mont Blanc
Traces of the Miage Glacier
Crossing the Miage Glacier and reaching the Rainetto Bivouac.
This route offers an irresistible mix of nature, adventure and a dash of alpine adrenaline.
Departure: Combal Watery Plain The route begins with a paved road route of about 3 km, during which you can take an alternative path to avoid the switchbacks, enjoying a more direct and immersive walk.
When you reach the bridge over the Combal plain, continue to the right on a dirt road that leads to the Combal hut at 1970 meters.
Across the Miage Glacier Moraine Before reaching the hut, take a trail that cuts across the Miage Glacier moraine.
This part of the trail offers panoramic views of ice masses and vast slopes of moraine debris, testifying to powerful glacier dynamics.
Ascent to Rainetto Bivouac The real challenge begins once you cross the stream descending from the valley between the Aiguille de Combal and Mont Suc.
Here the trail becomes steeper and more challenging, meandering between rocks and scree.
Depending on weather conditions, you may encounter snowfields that make the climb more strenuous but equally adventurous.
Climbing and Arrival at the Bivouac Having passed the rock slabs, which offer fun passages of first-grade climbing, the route opens onto a wide shelf where the Rainetto Bivouac stands, at 3047 meters.
From here, you tackle the last part of the ascent along a snowy ridge that leads up to the summit, over rocky cliffs that offer a rewarding and scenic finish.
Useful Hiking Tips Preparation: Make sure you have adequate equipment to deal with snowfields and climbing passages, including helmet, harness and, if necessary, ice axe and crampons.
Safety: Always check weather and glacier conditions before setting out.
Consider the option of an alpine companion if you do not have high mountain experience.
Respect for the environment: Keep trails and bivouac areas clean, and respect local flora and fauna.
This hike is suitable for mountain enthusiasts seeking a challenging adventure in one of the most scenic corners of the Alps.
The combination of hiking, climbing, and glacial landscapes promises an unforgettable experience in the high peaks of Mont Blanc.
