Ayas Ru Courtod walk
A Historical Walk between Saint-Vincent and Emarèse.
In the beautiful setting of the Aosta Valley, between Saint-Vincent and Emarèse, stretches an ancient 25-kilometer irrigation canal, the Ru Courtod, the heart of a water system created in the 15th century to make up for the lack of a vital resource: water.
This route, created by the “free men” of the Saint-Vincent hill, represents not only an engineering masterpiece of the time but also a wonderful opportunity for a walk immersed in history, nature and local culture.
A Flat Path Rich in History From Barmasc to Ru Courtod The adventure begins in Barmasc, about 1 km from Antagnod.
The wide trail no.
105 comes off at the edge of the parking lot, leading hikers to the meeting with Ru Courtod at an elevation of about 1970 m.
This section of the trail, through meadows and alpine pastures, offers a unique panoramic view of the surrounding area.
Along the Canal Continuing to the right along the flat path no.
5, which runs along the canal, you pass the Chavannes and Granaz mountain pastures.
The path, enriched by the presence of the open-air canal, turns into a pleasant and historically evocative walk.
Towards the Mandriou hamlet Near the Soudaz pasture, the trail meets the road that climbs to the Vascoccia pastures.
Continuing downstream from the farm “La Tschavana,” you reach the junction with trail no.
3.
Taking that path on the right, one begins the descent to the Mandriou hamlet, thus concluding a hike that enchants for its landscapes and cultural heritage.
