Discovering the “Ru” Trail from Charbonnière to Vedun: A Panoramic Hike in the Aosta Valley For lovers of nature walks and the discovery of breathtaking views, the trail from Charbonnière to Vedun, following the “ru” trail, offers an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Aosta Valley.
This trail, set among the mountains of the central valley, not only offers spectacular views but also a wonderful immersion in local history and culture. Departure from Charbonnière: The Starting Point The journey begins by leaving the car in the small parking lot located in Saint-Nicolas, just before the entrance to the village of Charbonnière.
Here, the tranquility of the place serves as a prelude to what will be an itinerary marked by peace and natural beauty. The Trail Along the “Ru” Continuing on the road that makes its way behind the houses, one soon comes into contact with the characteristic alpine landscape.
The road, at first paved and then unpaved, winds in a series of hairpin bends until it reaches the water basin, the point where the trail along the “ru” officially begins.
This ancient irrigation system, which takes water from the Vertosan stream near the village of Vedun, is an extraordinary example of how man has been able to adapt and shape the environment for his own needs, without taking away beauty from the landscape. A Walk amid Nature and Views The route, after an initial uphill section, opens into a mostly flat or short sloping path, allowing one to fully enjoy the surrounding landscape without excessive physical exertion.
The section then crosses the “Balteo Trail,” following it to its end at Vedun.
This segment is particularly rich in panoramic views, where Mount Emilius, Becca di Nona and Grivola act as majestic guardians of the valley.
