Villeneuve the fiha of barmé
Every year, the picturesque village of Villeneuve, nestled in the heart of the Aosta Valley, is transformed into a lively cultural arena with the celebration of the Fiha di Barmè. This event, now in its 15th year, is dedicated to showcasing the traditional rock-cut cellars, known locally as Barmè, and promoting the area’s food and wine excellence.
An Event Rooted in Local History and Culture.
The Fiha of Barmè is not just a festival, but a deep dive into Villeneuve’s cultural roots. It aims to celebrate and preserve the region’s crafts and culinary traditions. The very name of the event, “Fiha,” evokes a historical connection to the land and its ancient practices.
Market of Typical Products and Handicrafts
During the event, the village streets come alive with an open-air market where local artisans display their work. From wood carvings to carving to vanneries, demonstrating the skill and creativity that characterize Valdostan craftsmanship. Along the main street of the historic center, visitors can buy and admire unique objects that are the result of traditional techniques handed down from generation to generation.
Tasting of Wines and Gastronomic Products
The beating heart of Fiha di Barmè is the tasting of wines and local products. About twenty Barmè, the traditional cellars carved into the rock, open their doors to visitors, offering tastings of the best wines produced by Valdostan winemakers. The Assumption Square becomes a center of gastronomic excellence, where you can taste honey, jams, cheeses and strictly local cured meats.
