Brusson The gold mine of Chamousira

Chamousira Gold Mine The Chamousira Gold Mine is an important gold mining site in the Aosta Valley, located in the municipality of Brusson and which has only recently been recovered.
It is one of the most famous mines in terms of gold discourse in the Western Alps.
They are located in a panoramic position over the Ayas Valley and allow the discovery of the fascinating underground world of the ancient Brusson gold mine.   The importance of the Chamousira gold mine The Chamousira gold mine is extremely valuable to the Valley’s industrial economy, as gold is mainly extracted from here in its “native state,” that is, on its own, without having to be separated from other minerals.
Around Mount Rose, on the other hand, there is a kind of belt where gold is more frequently found.
But here, in addition to gold in its native state, there is also gold mixed with other minerals.
This is precisely the big difference between the Chamousira mine and the Monte Rosa mining belt: the Brusson mines are rich in pure gold.
It is a nice site to visit for all hiking and history lovers

The gold mine of Chamousira The History

The History of the Chamousira Gold Mine The Chamousira mine was only discovered around 1899.
A Swiss company began to do research combined with what it was already doing in the Challand-Saint-Anselme area and found that the Chamousira mine veins were extremely rich.
Excavations began in the very early years of the twentieth century, and in 1902 the mines passed to the British company "The Evançon Gold Mining Company Limited," which was able to exploit the mine more.
Exploitation by the British lasted from 1902 until 1907-1908.
Then, a series of vicissitudes caused the work to be abandoned.
Then, in 1937, a second interlude of exploitation of the mine by Commendator Rivetti of Turin began, who succeeded in extracting a few dozen lodes of gold.
The Chamousira gold mine today Thanks to the numerous rehabilitation works, it is now possible to visit the Chamousira gold mines accompanied by specialized guides, and the underground route, if done safely, is truly impressive.
Decommissioned mining sites are in fact very dangerous places.
Therefore, it is only possible to explore the mines internally within a certain limit.
However, it is forbidden to break into the actual tunnels.
