A Journey into Rural Life in Fontainemore The Ecomuseum illustrates how every survival strategy was based on meticulous use of the surrounding environmental resources.
One of the main structures is a two-story brick house: on the ground floor is the stable, while on the upper floor is the room with a fireplace for milk processing and the family dwelling.
This arrangement shows the efficient organization of space to maximize available resources.
Next to it, the wooden rascard houses the area for threshing rye and storing foodstuffs.
On the lower floor of the rascard, there is a cellar used for cheese maturing, which is essential for the preservation and production of typical dairy products.
Traditions and Crafts of Fontainemore The rascard also houses a collection of carpenter’s tools and other traditional crafts.
Particular emphasis is given to the tools of the mason (macon), a characteristic craft of Fontainemore.
The villagers were known for their masonry skills, so much so that they were also in demand abroad during the summer season.
A Corner of Relaxation Next to the buildings of the Ecomuseum, visitors can enjoy a small green area, ideal for a rest in the shade of a large cherry tree.
This space offers a quiet place to reflect on the traditions and history of rural life in Fontainemore.
