Gaby The sanctuary of Gaby
A place of worship surrounded by Nature
The Shrine stands at an altitude of 980 meters, about 2 km before the center of Gaby.
Dedicated to the Lady of Graces, this place has become an important pilgrimage site, gaining fame especially since 1833, when it was elevated to the rank of Shrine.
Originally, it was a modest chapel with two altars and a bell tower.
However, its growing importance was sanctioned by an extraordinary event: the survival of Jean Pantaléon Tousco from an avalanche that struck him.
Following this miracle, he vowed to the Virgin to build a shrine at the very site of the accident. The shrine was embellished with a wall containing fourteen paintings depicting the “Stations of the Cross,” the work of Francesco Curtaz, in a small imitation of the famous Calvary in Varallo Sesia.
This Way of the Cross became a tangible testimony of the devotion and gratitude of the faithful to Our Lady of Grace. Notable features in the shrine include the Baroque-style high altar, made with fine carvings and gilding in wood, and the organ dating from the 18th century, considered one of the oldest in the Aosta Valley.
