Saint-Marcel The Servette Mining Site
A history of extractions
The Servette mining site, located in the Vallon de Saint-Marcel, represents a historical record of mining that has spanned several eras, from Roman times to modern times.
The tour route, within the Mont Avic-Mont Emilius Special Protection Area, is a journey through the processing of the material, the life of the miners, and the economic and social impacts related to mining.
Explanatory panels in Italian, French and English guide visitors through points of interest, such as the mining tunnels, the caretaker’s dwelling, the sled track and other service buildings.
To ensure safety, visits to the galleries require reservations, while the outer parts of the site can be visited freely.
Access is from the Les Druges Picnic Area, a 20-30 minute walk away.
