Gressoney-La-Trinité Via ferrata routes of the Guides
The taste of adventure
Access to the ferrata is via the Pont-Saint-Martin highway exit.
Follow the signs for Gressoney and continue past Gressoney-Saint-Jean.
When you come in sight of the village, follow the road that enters the village and in a few meters you will reach a large parking lot by the cemetery. The ferrata consists of three via ferrata routes among the vertical slabs above Gressoney-La-Trinité.
The first route is beautiful and aesthetic but challenging.
At the end of this one, the two lines that tackle the last overhanging wall start.
This concatenation is considered the most difficult ferrata in the Western Alps. Ferrata ROUTE DESCRIPTION: From the large clearing, follow to the left and find a wooden sign indicating the ferrata on the right.
Follow the mule track that climbs to the right and in 2 minutes reach the ferrata cables.
Climb well bolted and stepped slabs, but tiring for some overhanging sections.
Come out on a large ledge that you follow into the woods to the left, continuing vertically.
Go over slabs, roofs and a vague dihedral of about 20 meters.
Reach a metal ladder and continue on more slabs, with new overhanging sections, until you reach a repeater.
(It is possible to descend to the right on a steep path back to the base in the woods with switchbacks).
The Ferrate Subdivision From the exit of the Old Ferrata, proceed left and in a few meters you reach a 35-meter bridge-passerelle.
Cross it to reach the attacks of the New Ferratas: – The right ferrata (ED) starts with a 2-meter wall and an overhanging slab with steps.
Continue with a traverse to the right with a 7-meter section, first overhanging and then vertical.
It is possible to rest and then face a last overhanging wall of 15 meters that leads to the exit at the charming Tache alpine pasture.
– The left ferrata (ED) starts with a wooden footbridge of about 5 meters, followed by a Tibetan bridge of about 10 meters.
Climb an overhanging slab, go over a roof and continue on a more vertical wall.
Then continue on another, increasingly overhanging wall to the more leaning exit.
From the building, continue right into the woods on trail 11, which soon meets trail 10.
Follow the steep trail to the right to the second junction.
Continue on a very steep track reaching the descent path coming out of the old ferrata. To tackle this via ferrata safely, it is advisable to be accompanied by a mountain guide.
