Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele Valsavarenche

Valsavarenche Vittorio Emanuele Refuge

The refuge of the first king of Italy

The old hut, built in 1884 and still in use, was flanked by the current building with a parabolic-shaped roof, which opened in 1961.
Both are dedicated to the first king of Italy Victor Emmanuel II of Savoy, a great frequenter of the area especially for hunting trips.
The most accessible trail starts from the village of Pont where you can leave your car in the large parking lot at the Hotel Gran Paradiso.
After crossing the bridge over the Savara River to the left, the mule track runs along a good part of the plateau in the Seyraz valley and then climbs into the larch forest until it reaches a rocky balcony from which the entire amphitheater of the valley below can be admired.
On the way up, a waterfall on the Chanté stream is flanked, and then a long traverse leads to a rocky section, easily overcome on steps.
Continue along the trail (trail marker 1) and finally reach the Vittorio Emanuele II Refuge.
