Chamois Walk to Lake Lod

  This is a Valtournenche trail that starts in the commune of Chamois, located at 1,818 m.a.s.l., and leads just above the village, where the mountain slope softens to give way to Lake Lod.
This alpine reservoir nestled in the mountains is a deep emerald green color and is a peaceful place that lends itself greatly to picnics with family and friends and an afternoon of total relaxation at high altitude.
How come it is called “Lake Lod” Lake Lod, whose pronunciation does not include the final “d” (Lò), gets its name from a spelling contraction of the French word “l’eau,” which means “water” in Italian.
The lake then gave its name to the small hamlet located not far from the lake and Chamois, which can be reached by car from Antey-Saint-André.
How to get to Lake Lod Lake Lod can be reached through two possibilities: a path a chairlift From the center of Chamois, in fact, a comfortable chairlift leaves, which goes up to Lake Lod and is suitable for the lazy ones who do not like to walk the path to reach the destination.
But it is still possible and recommended to take the trail, which is very quick and pleasant.
The trail starts from the center of the municipality, and the direction to take is indicated by the yellow posts.
The first part of the road is slightly steep, ideal for awakening the muscles and leaving loaded.
Just outside the village of Chamois, you can see a picnic area with games for children.
Already from here the view is splendid, but don’t stay too long: the climb has just begun, and from the lake the view will be even more satisfying!
