Donnas The History
The origins of Donnas date back to Roman times as evidenced by the archaeological finds still present in the area such as the arch of the Via Gallia and the stretch of road at the beginning of the village that is still well preserved.
The village once stood less than a kilometer west of the village of Treby, which, however, was destroyed in 1176 by a huge landslide.
The village was then rebuilt against the cliff face where it now lies.
Donnas was also under the administration of the Savoy and the lords of Pont-Saint-Martin later.
Donnas was a cantonal seat within the arrondissement d'Aoste from 1802 to 1814.
