Lillianes The History
The place name "Lillianes" is probably derived from a Latin personal name, "Laelius," perhaps a landowner in the area.
Tradition, however, has handed down another version, which emphasizes the link between Lillianes and the Lys stream: due to the multiple floods caused by the stream and the formation of small islands, the village would have been named "Insulae Helianae," Italian for "bright islands," after an ancient name for the Lys. From the Middle Ages until the end of the 18th century, Lillianes links its history to that of the Lords Vallaise.
A family of feudal lords who dominated the Lower Lys Valley (also called, precisely, "Vallaise").
Lillianes was part of the parish of Saint Saveur, located in the commune of Perloz, the oldest in the Vallaise: the population therefore had to travel to Perloz for many centuries in order to attend religious services.
It was not until 1614 that Lillianes became a parish, breaking away from Perloz.
A century and a half later, in 1762, the municipality of Lillianes was born.
