Valsavarenche The History
The municipality of Valsavarenche has ancient origins and is believed to have been inhabited since Roman times.
The valley was known for its wealth of minerals and its strategic location between Piedmont and France.
In the Middle Ages, the valley was disputed between the Savoy family and local lords until it finally came under the rule of the Savoy family in the 15th century, to whom the historic royal mule track, the Savoy refuge, and the Vittorio Emanuele refuge are dedicated.

Being in the middle of the Gran Paradiso National Park and at the foot of imposing mountains, Valsavarenche is a resort mainly frequented by hikers, attracted by the many trails that wind through the area and the magnificent biodiversity.
Among these we recommend, in addition to the two refuges already mentioned, the Chabod refuge and the nivolet lakes.
If you are intrigued by historical architecture we recommend visiting The villages of Nex and Tignet, one of the most beautiful complexes of traditional buildings in the Aosta Valley where many wooden barns dating back to the 15th-17th centuries are preserved.
